O Cadavo to Lugo - Roam if u want to, to the Wall

The Wall of Lugo was built at the end of the third century to defend the Roman city known as Lucas Augusti. It is still standing - like me!

It was a very pilgrim day today. Pre-dawn departure, shadows in the dark, with dawn slowly breaking behind me.

Galician pathways have distinctive stone work - bridge stones . . .
and welcoming, encompassing rock walls in cool shaded glens.
After a couple of hours, I found breakfast.
Then it was back with the sheep . . .
Sacred monuments remind that this is more than hiking.
For some, there is opportunity for . . .
For others, the chance to face your . . .
Watch out - Here come the cows!
Camino rule number one - always choose the shorter route.
Because you never know when your next meal is coming. This donativo stop was the only one along a 20 km stretch.
The opportunity for rest, for fruit, and for water was most welcome.
The path was well marked with gradual inclines and declines - no drama there.
Another feature is the use of slate as fencing. I wonder where we would see that today.
The outskirts of Lugo were in a word - boring!
Things got more interesting down by the river crossing.
Followed by the hill climb - always a hill climb - this was a Roman settlement after all.
In fact, the original wall is still intact after 1800 years. I saw the outline in this mural as I shuffled up the steps into the old city. Here’s another shot, with my hotel - yep, my hotel right there surrounded by it.
It was serene to step inside, check in and relax.
Time to explore - lucky it was siesta! First the thoroughfares
Then the plaza major . . .

We are just under 100kms to Santiago.
The Cathedral . . .
And directly opposite, behind me, a bridge by a main city gate.
And a section of the Wall.
I stopped for awhile and played guitar at a table metres away.
On the way back to the hotel I looked down and realised again I was on an ancient path.
I am here. I am roaming. Just a few days away from Santiago and taking in the wonderful atmosphere that is Lugo.
