Festival time in Santiago - Apostolo 2025
What a time to visit Santiago! There is so much happening and so many people having a good time. It’s wonderful to be here, it’s certainly a thrill . . .
I was about to join these ladies for breakfast then spied Cafe Paradiso across the street.
Delicious food and evocative decor.
Traditional costumes paraded.
The big incense burner in the Cathedral got fired up.
And swung about by a group of men in maroon dressing gowns.
Then it was time for lunch
Music is everywhere- this band of guitarists kept everyone entertained
With some audience participation
The Galician Philharmonic practiced . . for a lunchtime crowd of hundreds .
And performed for an evening audience of thousands.
Hundreds of pilgrims arriving and departing each day- the cycle of excitement and renewal continues.
While street theatre happens
The Plaza do Obdradoiro is a place of celebration and reflection.
They made it! Friends from Lithuania with spirit and determination.
Fireworks on the eve of Santiago’s feast day.
People in the park just outside the old city.
And heading back around midnight
I am so excited to be here. The atmosphere is amazing.
I marked Santiago’s feast day by booking breakfast at the Paradore - except I slept in and was half an hour late. After being reprimanded by the maître de, ‘Mike you are late’, I enjoyed a stylish breakfast.
I am now sitting in the lounge in the hotel.
And just popped out to see the military band marching in. What’s a feast day without a marching band!
Today is my last day in Santiago. Tomorrow I begin walking to Finisterre.
Apostolo 2025 - the feast of the apostle St James in 2025 will live in my memory forever- friends, people, performers and the spirit of the place.
Wow what a hoot! Looks like a lot of fun x
