Barcelona - Vibrant and Varied
Barcelona is a beautiful place. As my scribbles show, it is hard to know where to start and finish- the city is so full of life. Even the buildings like Gaudi’s La Pedrera have a vibe.
There is the Cathedral
And there is the post modern AGBAR Tower
There’s music to buy from a store that has been here forever.
And a market that first opened in Roman times.
With fruit and vegetables
And CHOCOLATE - I could not help myself - and then I did!
And delicious food everywhere
Outside in the busy city - I couldn’t help but notice similarities between pigeons and tourists. They both seem to congregate in groups, and vie for the best positions for what is on offer (although I think the pigeons are more civilised)
Compare the pair!
But I have to admit - I am tourist - got a best seat on the city bus tour too!
Notice their map is much less messy than mine.
On La Rambla, I dropped into the Hotel in which George Orwell took refuge during his time fighting with the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War - his book ‘Homage to Catalonia’ was an account of his experience- and a tribute to the Catalan people,
And - I almost forgot - Barcelona has a patrolled beach as well.
I will be coming back - Worth a second visit- for sure!
[By the way - I have gotten lost once or twice- the good thing about ‘old school maps’ is they don’t run out of charge]

ReplyDeleteGreat post, Miguel. Loving the vibe and it sounds like you are too!! Thanks for the parallel between pigeons and tourists - travel will never be the same again with that image to inform. I hope you finished the day with some good tapas or pinxos or whatever the hell it’s called it Catalan. Wish we were there. Savour on. Neils and Sarah
ReplyDeleteWe’ve been there a couple of times and last time Cheryl thought she enjoyed it more than Paris. It is special.
