Novellana to Luarca - Trees are falling at my feet

If a tree falls in the forest, does anybody hear?’ It was a tough walk today- the rain eased but the following winds were gale force at times. I looked down, I looked up, I turned my back, I even swore several times but no one heard me - so did I really swear? 🤔

Apart from the weather the last few days have been magical- San Esteban (pictured) and Novellana were beautiful coastal rural places - wonderful hospitality. That’s what sustains us when our feet hurt, we are alone, and the wind blows in our face - as well as a good breakfast (this morning’s).

Great - the rain has eased.

The blue sky was smiling at me - but then - the first wash out . . .  Off with the shoes and socks, keep the phone safe and dry, and set off.

Made it ~ note my wonky toenail - not the boots - I stubbed my right foot on a rock days back.

Luz, the hospitalera from Novellana warned to expect 5 or 6 of these over the first few hours- so I decided to take to the highway for a while - sort of similar in distance but flatter and safer as well. Wet steep forest paths with running streams are not fun.

The ocean came back.

After a while on the bitumen, I got back to the path.

To middle earth . . . [btw I met a peregrino who is using the ‘Walking to Mordor’ app - it’s about 3000 kms if you’re interested]

As the day passed I came across so many obstacles.

And then . . .

Limbo No. 5!

It was unnerving- then the wind began to gust again. I sheltered for lunch (thanks Cahoots I finished my Father’s Day gift) and a rainbow appeared.

Interesting- this part of Asturias seems to have neglected signage about the Camino as well as generally. Without a phone it would be hard to know where you are. There are few village/town signs.

It rained again.

Thankfully the last few kms into Luarca were marked well and smooth. I was grateful for that.

And for the albergue - I was the first to arrive.
Whenever trees fall at your feet, but you get to where you’re going- it’s good to be grateful - and then go and have some dinner.
