Luarca to Navia - Welcome Rain Delay
Sheltering from the storm at a bus stop outside Navia, the decision was easy.. After the weather dramas of the last few days, it was time to call off play for the day, find the local albergue and rest.
My day started with breakfast across from the albergue. I wasn’t sure how far I’d go today and I wanted to have a flying start. The weather, walking out of town, looked fine.
I passed church ruins from the 12th century.
And headed for the open high country.
Spanish freeways have extraordinary engineering- the contrast with crumbling ruins is stark.
The morning was going well, and I was enjoying the sunshine - but the clouds were gathering again.
Sure enough, familiar scenes from recent days returned.
At least today, there were bridges over fast flowing streams - most welcome.

Then a storm shower passed through- and the decision to abandon play was made.

The few remaining kms to Navia were wet, wet, wet.
It was good to find the albergue and get settled earlier than usual- and I could do some washing and DRYING 😂
Oops - that’s the other albergue. This is mine . . .
I had a late lunch with Camino friends who, like me, had felt the need to ‘just stop’.
It’s been raining all afternoon. I feel much better to be here warm and dry than to be out there in the elements.
Maybe this candle in the rain will bring the sunshine back- who knows?
Glad there was a morning break in the weather, Mike. The rain seems pretty relentless at present. Something is taking its course!! Buen Camino, Neils
ReplyDeleteOver at the Primitivo we had strong winds but no rain. Not much, anyway, just light rain. The problem is the cold. And the villages are really small with few services (maybe one bar/shop) so you don't see much life on the street.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you made a good call Dad, gotta rest when your body (and mind!) tell you you need it!
