Irun to San Sebastián

The day started easily enough. - an early morning Albergue departure through quiet streets and a walk down by the river .
Then reality set in! San Sebastian was many kms and two hill climbs away.
In the Camino way, I met up with two companions at the albergue and we decided to walk together- Tomas from France and Sandra from Germany, both really experienced travellers for which I was grateful.

As we walked higher and higher the views got more spectacular. I could see back to St Jean de Luz as well as where I had walked along the beach and where we had started this morning.

The peak was around 540 metres above where we started. Then it was time to descend - yikes sometimes the downhills are harder and I watched out for wobbly rocks. My boots worked well and I got down to Pasages de San Pedro safely. It was time for boat ride.

One hill pass done- one to go. After stopping for a coffee, we set off up and up and then down and up and down …. towards San Sebastián

All the way we kept the team work going - sharing snacks and checking apps for accommodation. We shuffled into San Sebastián in the late afternoon- and had a beer. It tasted good

I am taking today to explore San Sebastián so that means saying good bye to Tomas and Sandra - that happens on the Camino, it’s part of the spirit and the community of the way.

And the  angel at the  Cathedral de San Sebastián said unto me:
Mike - how will  you spend your time today in my beautiful city’

I’ll let you know tomorrow
