Bilbao for a day
Ever think when you have a day off, it’s time to just relax. Well I did today and took a wander around - for the whole day with Camino friends Anh and Rosina
That’s us bidding ‘Buen Camino’ to Chris from South Korea while I’m en route to the Guggenheim
Designed by Titanium man Frank O. Gehry glistening in the morning sunlight.
Vast, spacious in every dimension- and intimate at the same time- I had the feeling I knew where I was every moment and had the freedom to explore..
Had a wander through these extraordinary creations, then had the opportunity to watch a 1950s video of Picasso turning a wet clay vase into a duck and painting it, as part of his Sculpture Exhibition which features a lot of found objects - such as here in his sculptures of bathers- young old men women children…amazing what potential art objects are lying around right in front of our eyes- onya Pablo!
And there was an Andy Warhol wall- too many Marilyns are barely enough
Bilbao is a sophisticated city - like lots of cities
But the heart is in the old city
I farewelled my Camino friends at the Plaza Nuevo and headed back to the albergue for some home made pintxos.
Hmmm - fairly average but hey they’ll do - and I’ve also made some for tomorrow’s walk back to the sea
It was a great day off (and my pedometer read 16.1 kms! - that ridiculous man)
Looking so good Mike. Love your blog.
